EXCEL EXHIBITION CENTRE

Country: United Kingdom
City: London
Application: Public Works
Floor surface type: Ceramic tiles
Year: 2010

The ExCeL exhibition centre, the largest permanent exhibition site in London, features an expansive entrance terrace connected to the Aloft Hotel. This landmark project showcases the adaptability and durability of Buzon pedestals in creating functional, high-traffic public spaces.

Technical Requirements and Challenges

Located above integrated parking facilities, the terrace faced several challenges:

  • Access and Maintenance: Numerous drainage points required regular maintenance, necessitating a raised, durable installation solution.
  • Void Management: The pedestals accommodated a void of ± 220 mm beneath the tiles.
  • Tile Compatibility: Rotating adjustable spacer tabs enabled the secure placement of both linear and irregularly shaped tiles, with adequate spacing to allow efficient drainage during extreme weather.

Buzon Solutions Applied

To meet these complex requirements, over 25,000 BC series pedestals were installed. This range, equipped with circular adjustable spacers, ensured precise and stable installation, tailored to the technical demands of the site. The Buzon pedestals provided a durable and aesthetic solution fit for the demands of a high-use public space.

Key Benefits

  • Efficient Drainage: The pedestal design ensures optimal water management, preventing pooling even during heavy rainfall.
  • Simplified Maintenance: Easy access to drainage points facilitates regular technical interventions.
  • Stability and Versatility: The pedestals offered a solid base while adapting to different tile formats, delivering a perfectly level and visually appealing surface.

The ExCeL project in London demonstrates how Buzon solutions can transform public spaces into modern, functional, and durable environments. The flexibility of the BC series overcame complex technical challenges while ensuring a flawless finish.
